Final Project:
Reflections and Patterns
Artist Statement
In my final project, I decided to take a more creative route to expand the idea from my midterm project. The last project was all about capturing portraits by using mirror reflections. This time I wanted to focus on reflections and patterns in the editing process. While I kept the editing minimal in the midterm project, this time I wanted to push myself and try something a bit different. I manipulated the photographs by adding digital line art, mirroring images (sometimes creating a sort of kaleidoscope effect), and in some instances creating moving photos and turning them into gifs.
I used images from the past assignment, but also included more recent photos as well. I photographed my roommate Lauren again in the same location as before, at the top of a parking garage. Like the last project, I used two mirrors, a medium/large-sized mirror to photograph my roommate. I used a different camera, an old digital Nikon (which happened to stop working halfway through the shoot). Since the camera broke, there were not many new photos to choose from to include in this series, which is why I decided to include some photos from the past.
Initially, I was not sure how I wanted to add to the midterm project. I took new photos, but I was not as happy with how they looked on their own. I decided to airdrop the edited images to my Ipad and upload them into adobe sketch. I was hoping to see if any inspiration would come from drawing on the photos and such... and luckily it did! Very happy with the end results, this was another fun project. Hope you enjoy :)
