Artist Statement:
The sound project was very interesting to work on, especially with the prompt restraints. Only being able to use the sound clips from the shared google folder was a fun challenge. When brainstorming for this project after going through the shared sounds, my mind went straight to camping and hiking, So I decided to go in that direction. I began by creating a walk in the beginning, the individual walking locks up their bikes and heads towards the campsite. Along their way they hear the natural sounds of birds chirping, water running from a stream/river, and leaves crunching as they walk. Eventually, they get to the site they meet up with their friends talking and laughing. They start a fire and gather around to listen to music and continue to chat. Someone cracks a can and it transitions to a different kind of gathering- a college party. The previously calm atmospheric sounds shift to a chaotic jumble of noises. The kickback vs a true party. I incorporated sounds from an actual college party and overlapped them with noises such as party talk, cans opening, ice, doors opening & closing, and more. I decided to end the project by using a similar calm tone. The only thing that made sense to me was making the individual heat up something for a late-night snack. So in the end, I used microwave noises and crickets. Overall a fun and challenging experience, I love being able to do projects with interesting boundaries such as this one.
